PRESENTING
our version

Would also like to say a little bit on the English course i am taking. Meeting and Negotiations is a spoken English course which aims to improve students' professional oral communication skills by providing students with communication strategies and the language conventions commonly used in telephoning, formal and informal meetings, and negotiations. Usage of language to persuade, convince and negotiate with people is as good as crapping.. no homework no exam.. can use it to replace my boring finnish.. It also helps me interact with the pple in the class.. i realise mexicans can really talk.. met another mexican today.. he juz carried the conversation.. fernando was the one who recommended me the course so i decided to take it after duaing him last period cos all the lessons were in the morning.. now it is in the afternoon 4 pm! confirm can wake up. and the lecturer ken pilkington is damn funny and good.. typical american like holbo lidat.. frenly and has excellent communication skills. Today's lesson touched on Cross cultural differences in conversations whether it is okay to interrupt, how to end a conversation etc etc.. so easy to crap.. The consensus was that Finnish pple are generally shy and quiet n are stingy with their compliments, so when someone has good news or great grades, one cannot express it cos pple will be jealous.

Take this scenario for instance. In american culture, people will praise someone who looks good in a shirt. "Hey, that's a nice shirt u have on" and the Asian response would be "Nah, i got it at a great sale, 50% off". The phenomenon of downplaying a compliment is inate in many of us. On the bus, if there are only 2 pple on it, a typical Finnish reaction would be to sit as far away as possible and also avoid all contact but american culture dictates that it is normal to sit closer and also to make conversation wif the person u sit wif in the bus.. with a line that "it's blardy cold today". I certainly do not regret taking this course!
